It’s getting tough for me to find new brands of beans under $20 that are organic and sold at my local Ralphs or Whole Foods. This week I dipped into Mother’s Market and found these little brown buggers.
Tony’s logo has an elephant reaching for a coffee bean branch. I love elephants. I love coffee. This bag is destined to be delicious, right? A nice touch is that the graphic theme continues inside the bean bag once you open it. The roast is light and airy, like fresh laundry from the drier. Complexities unlock once ground and drenched. It’s rich, but not overwhelming or acidic.
A splash of cream, a slurp from my mug, and I am pleasantly relieved. I’ve been on a bad bean bender, and this delightful dirty water is a welcome change. A sweetness shoots across the roof of my mouth while a mild bitter bite hits the back of my tongue. Like pachyderms trumpeting in harmony, it captures my attention as something special.
Overall the taste is slightly intense, classic, and comforting. Like a safari-goer’s first glimpse of a gentle giant, Tony’s Espresso Bean is something worth searching for. In fact, I think I’ll journey through their other roasts to see if they’ll be as memorable as this one.
