I might have been a bit harsh with my first Dirty Water Diary entry, but trust me, nowhere near as harsh as that junk tasted. ZING!
This week I chose a fancy-looking baga beans. Yellow gold in color with the exotic name, Gevalia. It even has a froufrou umlaut over the “e” (which I’m too lazy to google how to type). Surely my taste buds will be rewarded with such artistic majesty.
The smell lifting from the freshly scalded grinds is skeptically good. At first sip, it’s delish, until it takes a turn down to sour-town. Is this what they mean by saying it’s got a fruity flavor? I’m no fan of sour grapes, but that’s the vibe I’m getting. The light smokey richness I look for in a satisfying cup is nearly there, but the faint whiff of dish-rag chokes me out at the finish.
Final thoughts? This lightly briny brew isn’t so bad (with an extra splash of cream). That only means it won’t earn a downgrade from the pantry to trash can. I’d also add that if I someday accidentally bought this again, I wouldn’t be terribly irritable. However, I’m still on the hunt for another brand to exorcize my craving for quality caffeinated bedevilments.
